Smyrna commemorated the 25th anniversary of 9/11 with a moving ceremony emceed by Councilmember Steve Sullivan, Corporal, U.S. Marine Corps. Nancy List performed the national anthem, Sergeant Andy Miller delivered the invocation, and Lieutenant Colonel Robert M. Hancock shared a powerful message of service and “September 12th” unity. Fire Chief Brian Goss sounded the final alarm for the 343 fallen firefighters, followed by a moment of silence and Jason Matson’s bagpipe performance of “Amazing Grace.” The ceremony also honored Captain Jeff Kuss and unveiled a World Trade Center artifact. Retired Colonel Thomas L. Hickerson concluded the tributes as the race’s official starter.
